A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word.
An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to
concede their position.
As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked
sarcastically, “Relatives of yours?”
“Yep,” the wife replied, “in-laws.”

BANGALOW JUNIOR RUGBY GOING FOR GROWTH IN 2010

After starting with a single under 12 team just three years ago, Bangalow Junior Rugby ran on five teams in 2009 and hopes to field seven teams for the 2010 season. The aim this year is for over 130 boys to wear the red, white and blue of Bangalow Rugby in every age group from under 8 to under 15.

The rapid growth of Bangalow junior rugby follows on the success of the senior team that has won the Village competition for the last five years in a row.

President of the Junior Club, Dave Phillips, said that the Club is attracting junior players from throughout the Byron Shire, including the villages in the hinterland.

“The scheduling of junior games on Friday evenings is a major attraction, allowing players and their parents to enjoy a game of Rugby and still have their weekends free for other activities. We’ve also been able to put on other popular family events like subsidised trips to watch the Wallabies play in Brisbane. We’ll be doing more of that kind of thing this season,” Mr Phillips said.

A key early event will be the inaugural Australian Rugby Union Bangalow FNC Primary Schools Rugby Gala Day to be held on Friday12 March. Primary schools from throughout the Far North Coast have been invited to participate.

Sign on days for players wishing to join Bangalow Junior Rugby will be the 20th and 27th of February from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at the Bangalow Bowling Club or on the adjacent field.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS GET INTO RUGBY UNION AT BANGALOW

The Australian Rugby Union has teamed up with the Bangalow Rugby Club to put on a gala day for the Wallabies of the future on the Far North Coast.

The inaugural ARU Bangalow FNC Primary Schools Rugby Gala Day will be held on Friday 12 March at the Bangalow Sports Fields.

The free event will cater for boys and girls in three age categories, Under 8s, Under 10s and Under 12s and will be played under the ARU rugby pathway guidelines. The Tournament is open to all North Coast Primary Schools, even those with little rugby experience. This will allow new schools to compete against and play alongside those with stronger rugby traditions in a fun, carnival atmosphere.

The event builds on the growing momentum for junior rugby around Bangalow that started with the creation of a single under 12 team just three years ago. Last year, Bangalow Junior Rugby ran on five teams and the Club hopes to field seven teams for the 2010 season in every age group from under 8 to under 15.

More information about the Primary Schools Rugby Gala Day will be available shortly from schools throughout the Byron Shire.

Sign on days for players wishing to join Bangalow Junior Rugby will be the 20th and 27th of February from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at the Bangalow Bowling Club or on the adjacent field.

Bangalow Rugby beginning 2010 Season with a bang.

Bangalow Rugby beginning with a bang.

After a successful 2009 season Bangalow Rugby are regrouping to defend their premiership title in the 2010 Far North Coast Village Competition. In a busy start to the season the Bangalow team is heading down to Evans Head on Saturday March 13th to take part in the inaugural Village 10’s. The following weekend 20 Bangalow tourists are departing for Adelaide to play few friendly games before hitting the much-hyped International Seven’s Tournament. As always pre-season training will start at the beach this year the venue has moved to Clarke’s Beach. Training begins this Wednesday at 6pm meeting at the car park. Players of all levels and experience are welcome to join in.  Applicants for the Senior Head Coach are also reminded that submissions close on Monday 1st February.

Bangalow may be a small town, but it has a proud Rugby tradition. The original Bangalow Royals played rugby union here before the First World War. The senior club was reformed in 2003 and has had outstanding recent success, winning the Far North Coast Village Competition for the last five years in a row. After their inaugural year in 2007 Bangalow Junior rugby has achieved tremendous growth and now fields a full complement of age groups.

Great Story of Junior Development

A Great Story of Junior Development at Bangalow

Bangalow plays Village Rugby in the Far North Coast and have been Premiers for the last 4 years. They began a Junior Club in 2007 and now have over 90 Junior players from U8s to U14s. With a long term goal of bringing the Club up to Premier Grade level, the Club is building its hopes on it’s vibrant Junior Program. From the words of their Juniors Coach Coordinator, Paul De Fina, “we are just a pub side, but take a lot of pride in what we do”.
They say playing in the top grade is a long term goal, but you get the feeling they might just make it (and have a lot of fun on the way). Well done Paul and the other Bangalow Club Members for a great story.
