Bangalow Limousines Now Open for Business

Our founding sponsor and patron Greg Nash has opened a limousine service for Bangalow. Bangalow Limousines. Long time local Grant Kelly is the man behind the wheel (don’t ask  him for a good deal).

Here is what Grant has to say… Going out in Byron. What a hastle to have to wait half an hour for a cab.. (just ask Andrea and Kegsy). Then its hard to get home with all the Byronians and tourists.

Now there is an answer. Bangalow Limousines made for Bangalowdians.

Bangalow Rugby’s New Webmaster

Junior News Letter Feb 2009

BANGALOW JUNIOR RUGBY NEWSLETTER

February 2009 Welcome Back Everyone It’s time again to get all that excess energy back out on the field and havesome fun!

Sign on days The main sign on day will be held on the 21st of February at the Bangalow Bowling Club (or on the field nearby) from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. There will be a barbecue and drinks available, plus the chance for the boys to get a footy back into their hands. There will be a second sign on opportunity in conjunction with the seniors at The Moller Pavilion in the Bangalow Showgrounds on the 7th of March from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Please note that this timing and venue are still to be finally confirmed, so check the Club website (www.bangalowrugby.com) or give Dave Phillips a call (0412 080 614) closer to the date if you are planning to come to the 7 March sign on. We will look forward to seeing the old faces return and hope to see lots of new ones. For new players we need to see either a passport or a birth certificate as confirmation of age.

Teams for 2009 This season we are hoping to have teams representing all the junior age groups. This includes under 8s, 10s, 12s, 13s, 14s, 15s. We need everyone to put the word out and encourage new players to join the club. Talk to your friends and relatives and bring them along to have a chat with the coaches on sign on day.

Registration fees for 2009 Thanks to the support of our major sponsors, Baywaste, Holiday Village Backpackers, and George and Fuhrmann Real Estate, plus the help of all those involved in fundraising, we have been able to keep the registration fees for 2009 unchanged from last year: $80 per player or $150 per family. If cost is an issue for you, please speak with Dave Phillips. We don’t want any potential Bangalow junior rugby player to miss out. All players will receive a jersey (which stays with the Club), plus socks and shorts to keep.  We are also hoping to have some other gear available at low cost. In particular there will be some great Bangalow Rugby gear bags available.

New grounds, training days and match days We are hoping to be able to train again on Wednesday evenings. The new fields at Bangalow should be ready, at least for junior soccer, which will hopefully free up some space for us. If possible we will confirm this on sign on day. Matches will again be held on Friday nights, leaving your weekends free (or available for soccer, AFL, rugby league, etc!). The under 8s may train on Fridays before their match so that they are only committed on one day a week.

Farmers market parking and fundraising A big thanks to everyone who helped out with the Farmers Market parking. We are looking for new ideas for fundraising this season. Let us know if you have any ideas or would like to contribute your time in any way.

Need for people with first aid experience It is a requirement that a first aid bay be available at every home game. We are looking for people with current first aid certificates who are willing to be rostered on at some stage during the season. Please let us know if you are able to assist.

Junior Club Web Master We are looking for someone to take on the role of Junior Club Web Master. This will involve keeping our web page up to date and looking good. Please let us know if this might be for you.

Bangalow Rugby Latest News

BRFC Junior Rugby

This Friday night, 11th Sept, Bangalow will play host to the Far North Coast Junior Grand Finals for U12, 13 and 14 teams. The evening will start off with an U10 exhibition match at 5.40pm and culminate at 8.40pm with the U14 Grand Final.

Congratulations must go to all boys and coaching staff who participated in the season with special mention to our U13 team who will be competing against arch rivals Lismore for the 2009 Premiership. Kick-off for this must see match will be at 7.30pm. I encourage all members of Bangalow to show their support to our up-and-coming young players.

BRFC Senior Rugby

The following day, Saturday 12th, the Far North Coast will be holding its Senior Grand Final Day at Crozier Park, Lismore. Bangalow Senior’s will be looking to claim their 5th straight title when they square up against a high octane Yamba in the final of the Far North Coast Village competition.

Beaten by Yamba 41-0 three weeks ago Bangalow rebounded to beat them 28-7 in the Major-Semi Final. Last weekend Yamba downed Kyogle 26-8 in a do or die clash after being down 8-7 at half time. All indicators point to an enthralling match-up in what is undoubtedly the most anticipated Grand Final for many years. Kick-off will be at 12pm.

A supporters bus will be leaving the Bangalow Hotel at 11am sharp, Bangalow Pub Social members will travel free of charge as to will all BRFC Social Club members.  Cost for non-members is $10. Seats are limited so refundable deposit is required – pls Ring pub on 6687 1314 or see Mike Dowd for further details.

Bangalow Gallant in Grand Final Win -2008

For the forth consecutive year in a row Bangalow have taken out the Far North Coast Village Rugby Competition with a heart stopping 10 points to 8 win over Evans Head. Running with a substantial tail wind in the first half Bangalow capitalised early with a try to Nick Hornery after successive phase work left Evans struggling for numbers out wide. Despite the testing conditions Kerry Jennings converted the try with a well struck kick from the sideline. A strong performance by the Bangalow forward pack nullified the Evans home ground advantage with Neil Moran making strong yards up the middle and flanker Mick Hornery and Greg Cromwell punishing in defence. In the backline Richard Collin proved a handful by regularly running over the opposition with his trademark centre field runs whilst inside centre Nick Hornery played and supported well with some dynamic work at the breakdown. Defending a seven nil score line in the second half was always going to be difficult as Evans made their intentions known early kicking high and deep with wind. For the next 35 minutes Bangalow rarely saw the opposition half and were forced to dig deep in defence providing an exhilarating performance full of desire, desperation and courage. Strong set pieces robbed Evans of many attacking opportunities with Bangalow winning numerous second half tight heads and Jock Craigie consistently pilfering lineout ball. With less than five minutes to go Kerry Jennings capitalised on a rare bit of possession slotting a penalty goal to extend the lead to 10 – 3. A quick restart saw Evans camped back in the Bangalow twenty-two and with only seconds to go crossed the line for a five pointer out wide. Needing to convert the try to force extra time the Evans kicker pushed the ball across the face of goal giving Bangalow a dramatic and well deserved Premiership Victory.
