Play Junior Rugby with Bangalow in 2012 – Under 7′s to under 17′s
JUNIOR TEAMS AND TRAINING FOR 2012
As of 1 March we have nominated 6 junior teams: u7, u8, u9, u11, u13 and u16. Players turning 10 or 11 in 2012 will be in the u11s. Players turning 12 or 13 in 2012 will be in the u13s.
We have good numbers in most teams, but additional players are still welcome to register in all age groups. In particular we need to recruit some more boys or girls turning 9 in 2012.
Training starts for the u13s and u16s on Tuesday 6 March, from 4.30pm.
Training for the u7s, u8s, u9s and u11s will start the following Tuesday, 13 March, from 4.30pm.

The Cost
The registration fees for 2012 are $110 per individual player in a family and $180 for two or more players in a family. Shorts and socks are provided for each player to keep, free of charge, and we are usually able to also give all players a club polo shirt. It’s the best value junior sport available! But if cost is an issue for you, please speak with Dave Phillips. We don’t want any potential Bangalow junior rugby player to miss out.
The Club
Bangalow may be a small town, but it has a proud Rugby tradition. The original Bangalow Royals played rugby union here before the First World War. The senior club was reformed in 2003 and had outstanding recent success, winning the Village competition for five years in a row! The junior club was started in 2007 with a single under 12 team. In 2011 we had teams from under 7s to under 15s. We have had a team in the grand finals in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and in 2011 our under 15s won the premiership. In 2012 we hope to have teams from under 7s to 17s, plus an under 19s for the first time.
Bangalow Junior Rugby is a family oriented club and we welcome the involvement of parents and family members at training, at the games, and at social events. Each year players and their families get the chance to go to at least one international rugby game in Brisbane with reduced ticket prices.
The Games
The junior teams play under lights on Friday evenings. This leaves the weekends free for other activities (including other sports like rugby league and soccer for many of our footy-mad boys).
The extent of travel during the season will depend on the number and location of competing teams in each age group. The younger teams usually play in a northern division that extends from Alstonville and Lismore to Brunswick Heads. Older teams may travel once or twice as far as Grafton and Casino. Car pooling can be arranged where necessary.
There are also possible opportunities to participate in special rugby carnivals with teams from other regions, other states, and even other countries. Coaches will provide further information during the season.
Training
Training is expected to be on Tuesday afternoons in 2011 at the Bangalow sports fields, probably starting at 4.00pm for the younger teams and 4.30pm for the older groups. For more details contact your coach.
The Rules and Safety
Rugby is a fast moving, contact sport – that’s why so many kids love it. In order to maximise safety and fun for all players there are modified laws for each of the younger age groups. Under 7s play touch only. For more information go to http://www.rugby.com.au and click on ‘community rugby’.
Gear
Players need their own boots with studs. Boots used for other football codes, including soccer, are fine. All players also need mouthguards which can be purchased from sports stores or chemists or can be custom made by dentists. Mouthguards and boots must be worn both at training and during games. Headgear and other pads may be worn, but are not required.
Team jerseys, shorts and socks will be supplied for every player. Jerseys are usually provided on match day and parents take it in turn to wash them and return them to the coach at the next training session. Players get to keep their shorts and socks plus a Club shirt. Other Club clothing and accessories will be available for purchase during the season.
Call A Coach
This season’s coaches are likely to include:
Younger teams: Anthony Maxwell 0429 306 529, Paul De Fina 0400 572 028, Neil Moran 0423 685 902
Older teams: Steve Curtis 0409 672 264, Dave Phillips 0412 080 614
Volunteers
The Club runs on volunteers. Every team will need an assistant coach, a team manager, and someone who can help out the Club first aid officer (Paul De Fina) if required. No experience is necessary and short courses are available in Smart Rugby, Foundation Rugby and first aid. Please talk to your coach or any of the Club contacts if you can help in any way.
