Match Report – 11 June 2010
| Under 12s vs Casino |
The 12’s had one of their best games last night narrowly going down to Casino 2 tries to 3 in a very lively match at Bangalow.
We showed great improvement at the scrum and breakdown. Sunny put in some bullocking runs and player of the match Patrick scored two well deserved tries. Jordi tacked and ran well, his rugby League skills translating seamlessly to Union. Finn kicked a conversion.
All our smaller players showed passion often combining to bring down Casino’s big guys.
Well done 12’s, you showed spirit and commitment in an entertaining game well refereed by our own Davis Jensen. Thanks to the Mum’s and Dad’s for your support.
| U14s vs WAR |
The coach’s nightmare continued with inside centre Lachlan Walsh breaking his collarbone during training and Mitch Shepherd off sick, adding to our continuing saga of injury, illness and absence. Fortunately Jaiden Jones and Lewis Erskine were back, so we had the bare 15 to run on in an important game against WAR.
To keep the season on track we wanted to win with a bonus point, but with our depleted numbers we knew that wouldn’t be easy. But the boys were hungry for a win, and soon had WAR defending grimly before Jake Brumley crashed through to score the first of a hat trick of tries. Some poor discipline at the breakdown led to a series of penalties that gave WAR a chance to push a big forward over the line, but apart from that our defence was strong, with some excellent determination on our own line and a memorable clearing kick from Doug Jarvis that sailed from our in goal area into touch near halfway.
We missed a few other chances to score, but a characteristic storming run from Justice Hamnett set up outside centre Jaiden Jones who still had a lot to do to weave and muscle his way 30 metres to score under the post. Another spectacular try by from a cross field kick to flying winger Jasper Bala was disallowed by the referee who ruled that the ball was dead before Jasper grounded it. But we had the four tries for the bonus point, so it was mission accomplished.
With three fine conversions from Doug the final scoreline was Bangalow 26, WAR 5. Other highlights were some tight head scrum wins, some great steals in the lineout by Angus (‘Collarbone Crusher’) Page, and Matt Phillips repeated spoiling of the opposition halfback’s ball at the scrum.
