Match Report – 21 May 10

Under 8s – Bangalow -v- Lennox White

Well what a game we had last Friday night. Not only under lights but in the rain as well.

As coach I had to spring the boys back into the present as they became fixated with the rain falling past the lights. I understand the sheer visual delight of watching the rain fall but in a game of Rugby we need to be focused up on the game, sometimes.

The boys responded to my cries of ” are you with us tonight?” and put on another excellent game.

The game began earlier than usual and so we had a couple of almost late starters but that did not stop the Mighty 8’s from showing what they are made of.

Lennox were first to cross the line with a try in the corner. This was soon followed by another and another. You could feel the tension in the air and the rain in your face.

Not to be outdone, the Mighty 8’s Cheer Squad sprang to life and with yells of encouragement it was Bangalow that next crossed the line with young Will driving forward. This re-energised the boys and again Bangalow went in for a 2nd try. Lennox showed concern and through everything at the boys. Half time came and after a quick drink and a motivational speech that would have moved the TAHs to win, Bangalow hit back in the 2nd half.

A try feast followed with both sides exchanging try for try. Well that’s how I saw it.

The final score, a draw. What a game. The boys showed me that they do listen at training and I am very proud to report that most passes were behind, passes were made and caught and with more practice I believe we will be in the final 8.

Special congratulations to Angus who played his last game as a 7 year old and will now wear the coveted No. 8 jersey. Special mention goes to Callum for some great line breaks and to the never stand still Ben another fine effort. Keelin is getting more confident with each game and Zahi showed that he and Callum cannot wait until the Under 10 to start tackling. Finn gave 100% and again is showing great promise.

Well done boys.

Training at 4.15 pm Tuesday and this week we play Lismore at 6pm at Lismore Rugby Grounds

Under 12s

The Bangalow under 12’s were up against a very strong Lennox Head Green team.

We were missing a few players & were assisted with a few players from the Bangalow under 10’s as well as Lennox Head lending us a few players.

The Lennox head team was a lot bigger & faster as well as having rugby skills that were well advanced to ours.

Our team can gain confidence in the way we played particularly in the second half, with some very courageous tackling, & not stop efforts by all team members.

It is very important that all members of the team turn up to training on Tuesday nights at 4.30pm, so that we can practice our scrums & tackling, & help get the team to a competitive level.

Under 14s

In the second long distance away game in a row, the under 14s played Yamba at Yamba on a wet and cold night. Yamba are close to the bottom of the ladder, so we were aiming for a strong win to erase memories of the previous week’s defeat by Grafton. Once again we were a bit slow to start, lacking a bit in intensity in the slippery conditions, but still notching up three unanswered tries in the first half. The second half was more fluent with some excellent support play producing four more tries. In better conditions we probably would have reached the 50 points we were aiming for, but the 43 – nil scoreline was a good result on the night. Tries went to Jake Brumley (1), Christian Monks (1), Jasper Bala (1), Doug Jarvis (1),Matt Phillips (1), and Jackson Hagley (2). Doug kicked 4 conversions.
