Match Report – 7 May 10

Under 8’s Round 3

Bangalow Mighty 8’s had their second home game for the season in front of a packed crowd of parents and friends. The Mighty 8’s were pitted against an inform Ballina side that had both boys and girls.

The game was played with enthusiasm and none more so than the effort by Will and Ben who both played a tight game always looking for an opportunity to split the opposition.

The side was without Zahi who was sick. However, Callum and Angus filled in the gap and led the way forward. Young Keelin took a couple of great passes and will improve with more game time.

Finn has the potential to be quick around the field so I hope he can keep up the training.

Overall it was good clean game and the boys came away with more game experience and hopefully this will start to show in future games.

Under 14’s vs Grafton

The under 14s got a wake up call from a switched on Grafton side at Grafton on Friday night. Our boys straggled in late, suffering the effects of the two and a quarter hour drive, and part way through the first half we were 12 points down before we realised we were supposed to playing rugby.

The team got into gear after that but never recovered fully, going down 22 points to 12. Poor ball security, handling errors, some poor options, and some very curious refereeing decisions all cost us momentum and possession.

There were some good individual performances, with Jackson Hagley making some impressive runs and finishing off the best try of the match, but overall the team didn’t perform to its ability. Injuries to key players are still a problem but there were no excuses for a performance that was well below standard.

Back to basics and some hard work needed in training before we come up against the top sides Lennox and Lismore over the next few weeks.
